On a motion by Los Angeles County Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich in 2003, the Board of Supervisors renamed Lake Los Angeles Park to Stephen Sorensen Park in memory of Deputy Sorensen who was shot and killed in the line of duty. This unique park was truly an example of “by and of the people.” The Lake Los Angeles Park Association was formed by the homeowners in 1987. In order to fulfill their desire for a community park in this very rural area, homeowners came together to help accumulate funds to build the park. A new 14,000 square foot gymnasium was dedicated on July 3, 2013 by Los Angeles County Supervisor Michael D. Antonovich.
